Access to Care
Studying telehealth to optimize capabilities and increase access for all
As telehealth use grows, we’re committed to evaluating and improving its capabilities. A study developed by Nemours Children’s and Amwell one year after the pandemic dramatically increased telehealth usage, found that:
- Parent use increased from 22 percent in 2017 to 72 percent in 2021.
- Families earning less than $50,000 were the second-largest cohort of telehealth users in the survey.
- Nearly 90 percent of parents believe telehealth helps them participate in their child’s health together vs. in-person where only one parent may be able to attend.
- Two-thirds of parents said that insurance coverage for video visits is “essential” or “extremely important.”
“Regulations eased during the pandemic need to become permanent. Telehealth can be part of building health equity among people experiencing social, economic and family challenges.”
